- Wash oranges every well. Cut in half and juice the oranges. Stud one half oranges with the cloves.
- In a saucepan bring wine and water to the boil. Add cinnamon sticks, orange juice and studded orange half. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and serve hot.

Cranberry Orange Mulled Wine Recipe
This is m y favorite mulled wine recipe . Perfectly spiced, warming and so tasty . Tastes like Christmas in a glass. It’s a popular holiday treat in many European countries and is being sold at Christmas markets. This is hands down the best mulled wine recipe I have ever tasted. If you’re looking for a warming Fall/Winter drink, this cranberry orange spiced wine might be it.
This drink is very easy to make and always a highlight at any holiday party!
This is the prefect winter warmer to get you in the festive spirit!
- 2 oranges (unwaxed)
- 1 lemon (peel only)
- 150 g caster sugar
- 5 cloves (plus extra for garnish)
- 5 cardamom pods (bruised)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (freshly grated)
- 2 bottles of fruity unoaked red wine
- 150 ml ginger wine
- Step 1 Peel and juice one of the oranges and place in a large saucepan with the lemon peel, sugar, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add some wine to just cover the sugar, heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Now bring to the boil for 5-8 minutes until you have a thick syrup consistency.
- Step 2 Meanwhile, stud the remaining orange with cloves and cut into segments to use as garnish.
- Step 3 Reduce the heat and stir in the remaining wine and ginger wine, gently heat through.
- Step 4 To serve, pour into heatproof glasses and serve with the orange segments as garnish. Merry Christmas!

Make delicious orange mulled wine for the holidays
During the &rsquo90s when I was raising my kids in suburban Houston, I had a good friend and neighbor who was Dutch. We car-pooled and our kids played with each other for hours on end. She had traveled the world, including having backpacked her way through Asia and India.
She wasn&rsquot much of a cook herself so meals were usually at our house, given my constant experimenting. However, every year around Christmas, she would start making vats of mulled wine flavored with spices, fruits and herbs &mdash the aroma would waft down my street and all I had to do was follow my nose and join her on the stoop to sip warm, spiced wine. Of all the European nations that traveled to India in search of spices, the Dutch have maintained an abundant use of spices in their cooking.
My personal favorite is pairing red wine with sliced local Satsuma oranges, ginger, cardamom and rosemary. Sometimes I will throw in black pepper or cinnamon however in the spirit of the difficult times we have all been through, a shot of brandy may be the perfect addition.
2 oranges, sliced with skin on
2-inch piece of ginger, unpeeled and sliced
1 tablespoon cardamom pods
1-2 large sprigs of rosemary
Sliced oranges and pomegranate seeds for garnish
Instructions: Combine wine with oranges, pomegranate seeds, sliced ginger, mace, cardamom pods and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a simmer at very low heat. Once simmering, lower the heat to just below a simmer and continue to infuse the wine. Be careful not to simmer your wine for too long because it will evaporate the alcohol from the wine. Turn the heat off and let the spices steep into the wine for another hour.
Strain, squeezing out the pulp of the oranges and pomegranates into the wine.
Add the maple syrup, brandy and rosemary sprigs. Reheat upon serving to desired temperature.
&bull A teaspoon of whole black peppercorns can also be an interesting addition.
&bull If mace pods are hard to find, add a few thickly grated slices of nutmeg.
&bull Add more sliced oranges and pomegranate seeds to the glasses just before serving.
&bull We used a full bodied red wine, but any red wine you like will do.
How to Make Mulled Wine

Mulled Wine is nothing new. In fact, it has been around for centuries and there are many different ways to make it. Some people add brandy, some people add apple cider. Most everyone adds some sort of citrus and spices. This version is a quick and budget-friendly version—no zesting, no buying of brandy, no juicing. Just good old-fashioned spiced hot wine.
-1 bottle red wine-2 oranges-1 lemon-2 cinnamon sticks (more for garnish)-3 star anise-4 cloves-pinch of nutmeg-3 tablespoons sugar
Slice oranges and lemons into wheels. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and let all the ingredients steep for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Garnish with an orange slice and cinnamon stick. Makes 4 servings.
Look for a wine that&aposs fruity. The beauty of mulled wine is that the spices and citrus mask any undesirable flavors. Don&apost waste your money on a bottle of expensive wine—the cheap stuff works just fine. I used Cabernet, but a Syrah or Merlot would also work.
You can use this recipe as a base and adapt it to your liking. Don&apost like the licorice flavor from star anise? No problem, leave it out or pick something else. Using honey or brown sugar instead of regular sugar will impart a caramel sweetness. The possibilities are endless.

What you need:
- A bottle of dry red wine
- A cup of brandy
- An orange sliced in rounds

- Two tablespoons of brown sugar
Making this in a pot on the stove, pour in the wine and brandy and put it on low heat. Say a blessing or intention over your collective ingredients and the pot, and charge it with a task to complete, like “Keep my friends and family happy” or “Bring us abundance during consumption.”
Make sure the heat is still low, enough to heat but not to boil, lest you burn off the alcohol. Wine and brandy are known offerings to our gods, goddesses, and ancestors, so we want to respect the process.
Drop in your oranges. Oranges are known to bring success and prosperity, and abundance in terms of friendships. They will bring the pot a positive, sunny energy.
Place in your cinnamon sticks one at a time, symbolizing the Triple Goddess: The Maiden, The Mother, and The Crone. Cinnamon is known to draw in love and money, with highly Venusian properties!
Drop in your Star Anise, which is highly protective, and then your cloves, which is both protective and abundant, to increase the power of the potion.
Finally, add in your brown sugar to sweeten the pot, and simmer between 15 minutes and a full hour, to make sure every ingredient gets saturated.

A good mulled wine is one of the coziest things you can sip in the cooler months. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Gabrielle Ruiz was introduced to mulled wine while on her first trip to England it’s become a holiday season staple for her, and is likely to become one for you as well, once you taste the warm blend of red wine, orange slices, and sweet spices like cloves, cinnamon, and star anise.
How to Make It
With a vegetable peeler, pare 8 thin strips zest (4 in. by 1/2 in.) from orange. Juice orange and reserve juice.
Wrap cardamom and coriander seeds and ginger in a piece of cheesecloth and tie with kitchen twine.
In a nonreactive saucepan, crush orange zest and 7 tbsp. sugar with a wooden spoon to release oils from zest. Add reserved orange juice, wine, and spice packet. Cover and bring to a simmer over high heat, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand covered, 30 minutes. Discard spice packet and orange zest.
To serve, heat wine, covered, over medium heat just until steaming. If you like, stir in liqueur and more sugar to taste. Ladle into heatproof glasses. Garnish with thin orange slices if you like.

I used these honey granules to make my glazed apple cake earlier this year and it was a huge hit! The honey granules are a free-flowing blend of pure cane sugar and honey. They are deliciously sweet and a neater way to add honey flavor to all your holiday recipes.
One thing I LOVE about this recipe is that there is no need for an expensive bottle of wine. The spices and honey granules are what make the taste so great, so go ahead and NOT splurge on the wine or cider. And the recipe only needs 1/4 cup of brandy, so it is very inexpensive to make overall!
Some of the key players in this recipe are a wonderful blend of not often used spices. For this recipe, it was fresh ginger, whole cloves, whole star anise and cardamom pods.
These spices combine with the wine, honey granules and fresh fruit and cranberries to give you a drink that is TO-DIE-FOR!! (in a good way&hellip.) And I am in &lsquoluv with the way the honey granules avoid a sticky mess for me!
Note: If you can&rsquot find the honey granules at your store, this recipe can be made using normal honey, too. Use 1/4 cup of real honey in place of the granules.

Steps to make The Best Mulled Wine Recipe
Combine all ingredients
Place 2 bottles of red wine in a large saucepan with 4 cups of apple cider, ½ a cup of brandy, ¼ cup of honey, 4 cinnamon sticks, 2 sliced oranges, 8 whole cloves and 12 black peppercorns.

Remove whole spices
